Riders Revel In Five Star Ride
Written by admin on June 15th, 2009
Combining a gorgeous late spring Saturday with a worthy cause resulted in a successful first running of the Five Star Ride for Shalom House this weekend.
More than 20 bikers started their day at Susquehanna Valley Harley-Davidson and ran through the entire course to finish at White’s Harley-Davidson/Buell in Lebanon. Along the way, they met Board members and volunteers at the Antique Auto Museum, T.J. Rockwell’s and Kettering Corner.
Many thanks to our wonderful event sponsors, including Susquehanna Harley-Davidson, White’s Harley-Davidson/Buell and The Hershey Company. And thank you to our fabulous Board members and volunteers who gave their time and talents, both in advance of and on the day of the event. We couldn’t have had a successful day without you.

Highmark Walk A Winner
Written by admin on May 31st, 2009
Shalom House staff members, Board members, friends and volunteers joined more than 2,000 walkers at the 2009 Highmark Walk For A Healthy Community on Saturday, May 30 on City Island.
In its second year participating in the Walk, Shalom House increased both the number of registered walkers and funds donated. Thanks to the generosity of Highmark Blue Shield, all monies raised go directly to each participating non-profit.
Our walkers appreciated the beautiful late-May weather, as last year’s event was held on a humid, sweltering Saturday. A brisk breeze blowing down the Susquehanna River kept walkers and volunteers alike cool through the walk.
Many thanks to Board member Monica Rebuck, who served as Shalom House’s liaison to Highmark for the walk for a second year. Monica attended monthly meetings since last fall, and did a great job pulling together all the myriad details.

Hershey Company Sensory Group Aids Shalom House
Written by admin on April 21st, 2009Employees from Hershey’s Sensory Department, a team of experts in tasting and taste perception, recently created a cookbook with all of their favorite recipes. The team sold more than 300 copies of the cookbook and raised $3,000, with all proceeds going to Shalom House, a United Way Capital Region Program Partner. Hershey also donated the cost of printing the cookbook.
Proceeds from the cookbook went to the Shalom House.
“The homeless in our community essentially remain invisible while their situations can be life-threatening,” said Jackie Morrison, Executive Director of Shalom House. “Shalom House deeply appreciates the Sensory team’s considerable effort to produce this special book with its impressive layout and printing donated by The Hershey Company. These efforts translate quickly and directly into a helping hand for some at-risk neighbors.”
The Tech Center held a reception to celebrate the check presentation. At the event, Sheri Celtruda, Manager, Sensory Science and Insights, presented the check to Jackie Morrison. Dan Azzara, Vice President, Global Research and Development, and Jennifer Goss, Manager, Community Relations, also attended the celebration on behalf of Hershey.

We love to share stories about women who work with partner agencies, and this is a great one.
Brianna Chambers and her visit to Dress For Success were highlighted on a recent Fox43 story. Dress For Success works with women who need professional attire for a job interview, but can’t afford to buy the clothing they need.

We wish Brianna good luck on her interview, and her new life to come as she works toward self sufficiency.
