Thank You American Legion Riders Chapter 998!

Posted on 2012-07-05 by mrebuck

On Saturday, June 30, 2012, the American Legion Riders Chapter 998 hosted a Scavenger Group Ride event to benefit homeless women veterans in our community through the efforts of Shalom House, an emergency shelter for women and children that reaches out to women veterans, helping them to find housing and return to self-sufficiency and Hospice for All Seasons.

At this time when we are days away from celebrating the birth of our nation, over 100 members of the American Legion Riders, Amvets Ladies Auxiliary Post 286, sponsors, friends and volunteers came together and raised over $4000 to support needed services to help our military in times of personal challenge - a just cause for those who have served us all through the years.

Dauphin County Judge Bratton who oversees Veterans Court in the County was on hand to do check presentations to the two benefitting organizations, Shalom House and Hospice for All Seasons. In his comments he shared a thought which communicates a common desire among service providers and all of us who care about our military, appreciating their sacrifices: let us help our military who are faced with challenges as they leave their time of duty, to remember their days in uniform and how they felt about themselves - with dignity and purpose - helping them get back on track, knowing their value to all of us, remains invaluable.

Plans are already underway for the Second Annual Ride for a Cause. For more information about how you can get involved with this event or how you can make a difference for veterans in need in our community, please contact shalomhouseforwomen@verizon.net or visit shalomhouse.net.
