Loida Her Journey Home for the Holidays

Posted on 2011-11-19 by ep

One cold day last January, Loida became homeless. With three children under the age of four, she desperately needed a place to stay, and made her way to Shalom House, where the family was welcomed, fed, and given a safe, warm bedroom. But that was only the beginning. Through the Shalom House program, Loida quickly began the hard work it takes to recreate an independent life looking for a job, child care, health care, and formulating a plan and a budget.

This year, Loida and her daughters will be celebrating the holidays in their own home. In her five-month stay at Shalom House, Loida got the skills and confidence she needed, and she is back on her feet.

Homelessness has complex causes, but rarely is it solely about not having a place to sleep. This is why Shalom House is so vital in our community; it is more than an emergency shelter it offers women a second chance, a roadmap back to self-sufficiency.

Thanks for your generous support of Shalom House, of Loida, and of the thousands of other women whove remade their lives!

Loida and her familiy were recently featured onWHTM a localHarrisburg TVstation.
