Thank You American Legion Riders Chapter 998! (click for more)
Posted on 2012-07-05 by mrebuck
On Saturday, June 30, 2012, the American Legion Riders Chapter 998 hosted a Scavenger Group Ride event to benefit homeless women veterans in our community through the efforts of Shalom House, an emergency shelter for women and children that reaches out to women veterans, helping them to find housing and return to self-sufficiency and Hospice for All Seasons.
At this time when we are days away from celebrating the birth of our nation, over 100 members of the American Legion Riders, Amvets Ladies Auxiliary Post 286, sponsors, friends and volunteers came together and raised over $4000 to support needed services to help our military in times of personal challenge - a just cause for those who have served us all through the years.
Dauphin County Judge Bratton who oversees Veterans Court in the County was on hand to do check presentations to the two benefitting organizations, Shalom House and Hospice for All Seasons. In his comments he shared a thought which communicates a common desire among service providers and all of us who care about our military, appreciating their sacrifices: let us help our military who are faced with challenges as they leave their time of duty, to remember their days in uniform and how they felt about themselves - with dignity and purpose - helping them get back on track, knowing their value to all of us, remains invaluable.
Plans are already underway for the Second Annual Ride for a Cause. For more information about how you can get involved with this event or how you can make a difference for veterans in need in our community, please contact [email protected] or visit shalomhouse.net.

Shalom House Launches NEW Web Site (click for more)
Posted on 2012-05-07 by ep
In January, Shalom House was selected to participate in Harrisburg Area Community College's Capstone Web Project program. The program consisted of matching up several local area non-profit organizations with students enrolled in their final Web Development and Design Capstone course with a goal to create a new Web presence for their clients.
During the Spring semester, Shalom House representatives, Denise Britton (Executive Director at Shalom House) and Dan Christ (volunteer Web Master for Shalom House) met with four students, William Geisel, Alan Isley, Edward Pines, and Leslie Steele with the oversight of Professor Carl Petersheim to present ideas and requirements for the new Site. As the semester progressed, ideas were exchanged, meetings were held, design, development, some technical training, and a great deal of hard work was completed.
The final result is the Web Site you are viewing today.
The Shalom House Student Web Team wishes to express their gratitude to Shalom House and thank them for the opportunity to let their skills shine through while at the same time furthering the mission of Shalom House and their online endeavors.
Cheers to a successful launch!!
